Ukraine Rebuild Newswire download guide
I was approached by a close friend who was helping a journalist client produce a printed guide to the investment opportunities that would emerge as Ukraine embarked on reconstruction following the end of hostilities. It was an exciting project to be involved in, particularly as a ceasefire appeared to be within reach at the time.
Sadly, that proved not to be the case, and the reconstruction initiative has since been placed on hold. Nevertheless, I believe that the work we produced remains both relevant and important, offering valuable insight into the opportunities and challenges that will shape Ukraine's eventual recovery, and is reproduced here for all to see.
The guide was to be a free download from the Ukraine Rebuild Newswire subscription website which my contact had been involved in creating. It comprised a comprehensive list of all reconstruction guidebooks and links to resources.
The opening text reads: "When the fighting in Ukraine stops, we will survey the carnage – the devastated energy grid, the gutted housing, the schools reduced to rubble, and the millions of shattered lives and broken bodies."
"A close-up tally of the misery and damage will offer lessons we can’t afford to ignore. But applying those lessons will require more than reflection—it will demand renewal. Hammers and saws must replace rifles, grain planting must replace the laying of landmines, and blueprints must replace battle plans."
"Thus will begin the $500 billion - $1 trillion reconstruction of Ukraine - by many accounts the most ambitious construction project the world has seen."
"If the West lives up to its promises to “build back better,” the entire transport infrastructure of Ukraine, the largest country in Europe, will be reoriented West-ward. New ports will be built, rail connections made and European Union standards of construction and governance met."
"New products will decorate supermarket shelves - indeed, new supermarket chains will decorate the streets. The grid will be decentralized, housing will be redesigned, vast volumes of rubble will be repurposed and millions of refugees and veterans assimilated back into the workforce."
"And, of course, new business powers will emerge and hundreds of billions of dollars in contracts will be signed. Covering this change is the raison d’etre of Ukraine Rebuild Newswire, the world’s only news source dedicated solely to the reconstruction of Ukraine."
"As part of our mission, Ukraine Rebuild Newswire offers this quarterly “guide of guides.” In these pages, you have a single, consolidated resource for investors, builders, bankers, advisers, and other stakeholders seeking to navigate the plethora of guidebooks offering advice, directions, interpretations and instructions to rebuilders large and small."
"Each section gathers the best available resources for specific needs — from general overviews to sector-focused insights and guidance. Each summary includes deep links for readers who want to explore further."
"All information in this guide is up to date, with sources no older than 2024 – except where noted otherwise for specific reasons – to ensure relevance in Ukraine’s fast changing investment landscape."
"These resources are drawn from financial and research institutions, law firms, consulting agencies, and other business organizations, grounding the insights in reliable expertise."
The project was a privilege to work on, and felt as if I were able to make a meaningful contribution, however small.
Discovering all of the plans in hand for a reconstruction of a country after strife ends was a real eye-opener.
